I think it is a marvel, actually. I've met a lot of beings from a lot of worlds, and not everyone out there has this kind of stubbornness, or adaptability.
Stubbornness is not always seen as a positive quality. I'd agree though that human tenacity is commendable, though their occasional insistence on projecting wellbeing when it isn't the truth less so.
( it's so weird!!! when she talks like this, you'd almost think she's not human!!!! BIZARRE! )
That's all right. I'm Diana.( her username sent back says as much, though. )
[ Jim assumes she's not human, from this exchange, but doesn't think much of that fact - loads of people aren't human, where he's from. ]
Oftentimes the choice is either push through it or give up, and collectively, humans aren't good at giving up. It's where the instinct to 'walk it off' comes from, I think.
( Red, the entire planet is a red desert of rock and sand, the platform is carved from it, stretching high towards the black sky, firelight so brittle in comparison.
He says nothing but you're captured by him anyway, compelled. Fixed in place. You can see it on his face, struggling to go unsaid, desperation. Do you remember me?
And you don't, but you want to. )
It's not his memory. Jim stares at his phone and pushes away whatever Ambassador Spock left in him - about himself, no, about - Kirk, somewhere else. It's fine. This is fine. ]
If it's any consolation: I've met myself before. A couple of times. So I may be someone entirely different.
[ A dime a dozen, or something like that. (Jim's used to being the wrong James T Kirk. Sometimes he wishes he could remember context to the flashes of the elder Spock's memories that strike him every so often, but more-- he'd rather they left him be.) ]
( to meet yourself sounds rather bizarre, though, perhaps Diana has a concept of it. since arriving here she's heard of a few that knew versions of her, though she'd never met one of them. she's not as doubtful as she could be. )
More than. I was... a fish out of water, and easy to take advantage of. You looked like someone I knew and helped me just like he would have.
( he was also her first friend to return to stasis, the first of a long line, now. )
And met another version of yourself while you were at it? That sounds incredible.
I was too, and I am glad to see you again now. Though, I confess at the time I didn't understand your attempts at flirting. I assure you I'll be more aware this time.
[ What's better than a twinsisterclone?? Very little. Like, cold beer and not melting the ship hitting warp 12 rank higher.
And, well. ]
I don't know who's got the worse end of that, honestly, because I have it on good, repeated authority that I flirt with all the subtlety and grace of a cabinet full of delicate objects being hurled down a flight of stairs.
I wonder what an alternate version of myself might be like, though my time here has given me some ideas. It is odd to meet people who know you, but not you.
( Bruce and Steve are the only ones that knew her from the same world. it was strange to hear the actions of another version of herself. surely odder to meet one, though. )
As someone that's experienced flirting more akin to the delicacy of a giraffe ballet dancing in a tornado, it wasn't quite so bad.
( he was about the 8th man she'd ever had a full conversation with, he'd have had to hit her with the broad side of a barn in the way of flirtation for her to notice.
still, men's egos being what they are, she'll let him believe that. )
I see. A man of your stature surely takes such rules quite seriously.
( is it hard to note sarcasm over text? BUT HEY maybe he has grown up a little from the version she'd known. she will just have to see for herself. )
( in a manner of speaking, so has she. what does it say about her that it took more like a hundred years??? whoops )
I think that many rules are made for a reason, yet some still merit being broken. I suppose it is up to each of us where we stand on that particular spectrum.
[ It says she's got more time to work with than a human. ]
Pushing boundaries and challenging rules is how societies and other collective entities evolve, become more fair, and grow, I think. Having the ability to do so, even when you're content with the rules as they are, is vital.
[ To be fair, it's been a while. Even the incursion on the Romulan Neutral Zone he forced shortly before coming here ended up being cleared as a necessity before he had to defend himself; turns out he's captain material after all, who'd have thought. ]
Say hi to me in person sometime. I imagine you're one of the only people who isn't going to mistake me for Steve.
[ Since he's put two and two together, and is guessing Diana knows the other man well enough not to be fooled. ]

Jim Kirk. Nice to accidentally meet you, Diana.

( which is sad — if he's the Jim she remembers he had been a good friend with a familiar face when she'd first arrived. it seems so long ago, now. )
