I am. I wasn't present for the worst of it, yet those close to me cannot quite say the same.

I had a lot of friends go missing, I understand. I helped lead the rescue team sent into the Institute.

Then you deserve my sincerest gratitude. Someone very important to me was held there.

I don't think I have thanks enough to give for your efforts, but if there is ever anything you need of me, you'd only need to ask.

Please, it's all right. I only did what anyone else would do.

Are they recovering well? It was — [ Horrifying in there. ] — quite an ordeal.

No, not anyone. I know that all too well.

( a couple wars of evidence and a hundred years watching humanity tells her that it is a particularly uncommon quality. )

Bodily, yes. Internally, it's harder to tell.

[ She's just been through the one, but it was enough to draw a similar conclusion. More so when she learned that the decades after her time were still peppered with more conflicts. (Hers was meant to be the last. But so was the Great War before it.)

But in her line of work, the men and women she served alongside — they all did it out of duty, love, honour. It couldn't be all bad. ]

Not very forthcoming either? I've been meaning to speak with the people who were taken, to try and get an idea of who captured them. But I wouldn't want to push anyone too much, too soon.

No. He's never been the forthcoming type, but it I hate feeling so powerless to help him.

I suspect if he knew anything about who was responsible, though, he'd have said so.

( Bruce is not at all inclined to talk about himself, but focusing on others? that he did well. )

Steve too. I don't think he'd try to keep that information a secret, not if the safety of others was at stake.

Which I'm afraid may still be the case.

You suspect these extremists will strike again?

( seems doubtful that they'd give up now — especially when so many had managed to flee. )

I don't think they got what they wanted. So unfortunately, yes.

What they want seems to be anarchy, and in this place, that does not seem difficult to achieve.

[revlon]

People are already angry and looking for a fight. It's not hard to tip them over the edge after that.

It's troubling, though, not unique among mankind.

( there always seemed to be another war in need of fighting. El Nysa is not new to that mindset. )

How do you mean?

War is an answer all too often. That was true in my own world, I can't say it surprises me to see it here.

[revlon]

Nor me. I wish that wasn't the case, but some things are a constant.

[wondie]

There are good things that are constant too, at least.

Yes. I can only speak for myself, perhaps my Steve as well, but there are always people willing to stand up for what's right.

It's just a little strange to try and navigate here. I've always had trouble settling a home even if I'll do my best to defend the idea of it — but this is something new altogether.

Yes, I find that so as well. For all the extremists, their numbers were matched with people determined to help.

It is strange. Especially knowing we were forced to this place, rather than choosing it. That makes seeing it as home more difficult, I think.

And yet we've no other choice, if home truly is gone.

There's a choice, but it might be foolish as well as foolhardy to fight what is already done.

I am not one for settling myself, but if I can give you any advice, it will be to take advantage of the time you have.

( it can end up so much shorter than one would expect. )

You don't have to tell me twice. I'm aware of how lucky I am to be here and that I can make up for lost time with someone I never thought I'd see again. I'm not glad for the circumstances that drove us to this planet, but I won't say I'm ungrateful for our second chance.
